EPISODE GUIDE - Series 7 (2012)

Tyenna, Tasmania

I’m fishing the spectacular Tyenna River, in Tasmania’s south west this week on IFISH with Tackle World and I’m joined by local trout fishing guru, Murray Thomas.  We are casting for Brown Trout as the Tyenna River is renowned for ‘brownies’ and we are not disappointed.  I get up to speed on the art of fly fishing and you’ll have to watch and see what swims by – I could not believe my eyes!!

Tarraleah, Tasmania

I’m fishing the pristine waters of Tasmania this week on IFISH with Tackle World, and I’m joined by local expert and fishing guide; Justin O’Shannassy from Ken Orr’s Extreme Guiding Team. We’re in search of some Brown Trout, and while Justin sticks to the traditional fly method, I try my luck with lures. Seems these Tassie Trout like a bit of variety!

Staaten River, Queensland / Twin Lakes, Tasmania

Join me this week on IFISH with Tackle World in the remote Staaten River area of the Cape York Peninsula with my wife Cristy and local fishing legend ‘Groover’.  We fish Picnic Billabong for the prehistoric looking Saratoga and as a bonus Cristy earns the title ‘Barra Whisperer’.  Then it’s a real change of scenery as the family heads to beautiful Twin Lakes in Tasmania where through early morning mist the brownies and rainbows are in my sights.   So good to be back fishing Twin Lakes again!

Staaten River, Queensland

We’re back for a brand new season of IFISH with Tackle World! And what an amazing year we’ve got planned for you!

The crew and I have already been scouring the country to bring you the best fishing stories, and I’m so excited that the time has finally arrived that we can start showing you some of what we’ve been doing over the summer months!

We kick off series 7 with everyone’s Australian native; the good old Barra! I’m in Far North Queensland in the remote Staaten River area of the Cape York Peninsula. My guide and fishing buddy, Gavin ‘Groover’ New, shows me around his home turf and lets me in on a few of his Barra techniques. Watch out for the Shark vs. Barra incident!

A big thanks to all our loyal viewers who helped IFISH receive a TV Week Logie nomination for Best Lifestyle Program at this year’s awards! What an honour, and such a great way to put Australian fishing in the spotlight! Again, thank you!

Staaten River, Queensland

I’m back in Queensland’s Gulf of Carpentaria this week on IFISH with Tackle World, and I’m joined on the pristine Staaten River by local fishing guru and guide, Dan Harrison. We’re targeting Barramundi whilst using a technique not usually associated with it; fly fishing. It’s a day of discoveries – Dan fishes a part of the river completely unknown to him, and I catch my biggest Barra on fly! Love mixing things up!

Staaten River, Queensland

I’m back in far north Queensland in this week’s episode IFISH with Tackle World, and I’m joined by Angling Adventures’ Garry Barmby as we go in search of the mighty Barra of Staaten River. We’re trolling lures with Staaten River’s fishing guru, ‘Groover’, and we’re coming up with the goods with some beautiful saltwater Barramundi. I’ll never tire of seeing that chrome come up through the water!

St Helens, Tasmania & Amsterdam, The Netherlands

It’s a HUGE episode this week on IFISH with Tackle World as I travel to two fantastic fishing locations. First, I’m off to Tasmania’s east coast with fishing legend Rocky Carosi. We’re in St Helens in search of Striped Trumpeter and as always, Tasmanian waters never let me down! Then I’m back in my native Netherlands on a very special fishing expedition with my boy Jet Reef. We’re fishing in the middle of Amsterdam and despite the hustle and bustle, we still catch fish! This city is amazing, and so is my boy who catches his first Zander! So proud! Enjoy.

St Helens, Tasmania

This week I find myself in the beautiful seaside town of St Helens, Tasmania. Local guru Jamie Henderson from St Helens Bait & Tackle takes me to one of his favourite trout streams and it doesn’t disappoint. The setting is magical and the fish are thick.

St Helens, TAS / Salmon Ponds, TAS

IFISH with Tackle World is back in The Apple Isle this week where I’m joined by local fishing guru Jamie Henderson, as we tangle with the elements and chase the big boils in search of Australian Salmon.  Then it’s  onto a very different part of Tasmania where Ken Orr shows me around the magnificent Salmon Ponds near Hobart.  From salmon at sea to salmon in ponds – it’s good to mix it up!

Sorrento, Victoria

It’s a special episode for me this week on IFISH with Tackle World, as I spend a day’s fishing with my boy, Jet Reef. We’re in Sorrento on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula and we’re in search of King George Whiting. They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, and this saying couldn’t be more true with Jet catching his fair share of Whiting and Squid. We also visit our favourite spot for watching Port Phillip Bay’s playful seal colony. What a great day!

Shellharbour, NSW

This week’s show is one for the land based brigade. I head to Bass Point, Shellharbour in New South Wales and wet a line with my good friend Allana Ferguson. The fishing is pretty good, but I just can’t take a trick. Lucky I have Allana with me to wind in the big ones!

Series 6 Tackle Box – Highlights from 2011

It’s a trip down memory lane on this week’s episode of IFISH with Tackle World, as we look back on highlights from series 6. These are some of my favourite stories; from monster fish to special moments with the family. I hope you enjoy them too.

Rompin, Malaysia

On the show this week I head to Rompin in Malaysia with the Tackle World and Shimano Australia crew in search of sailfish and snakehead. Our journey starts with a tour of the Shimano reel factory and ends in one of the fishiest places I have ever seen. I have this crazy idea to catch a sailfish on a kids combo. It is bound to end in tears, but will they be tears of sadness or joy??

Rompin, Malaysia

I am joined on IFISH with Tackle World this week by all my fishing mates from Tackle World Australia and Shimano Australia in Rompin, Malaysia where we hit the waters in search of sailfish.  This is bill fishing at its best and we are treated to some spectacular sights as we are amazed by those huge purple sails hurtling out of the water!!   Watch to see  if we strike gold!

Mission Beach, QLD

I’m back in Mission Beach on this week’s episode of IFISH with Tackle World, and I’m onboard Fishin Mission with Dennis Daly. He’s taken me offshore in search of the Giant Trevally that are famous in these waters. Only problem is, I’m not having too much luck while Dennis keeps winding them in! My luck certainly changes though, with another milestone catch! But this is one of those days where the fish are a bonus; it’s just great to be out on the water in such a beautiful part of the world.

Marion Bay, South Australia

I’m in Marion Bay on the foot of South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula, and I’m with local fishing legend, Shane Mensforth and the boys from SA Fishing Adventures. You can’t go to South Australia without catching the famous King George Whiting, but I’m surprised by what else I catch!

Marion Bay, SA

I’m back in beautiful Marion Bay, SA this week on IFISH with Tackle World teaming up with local fishing guru Shane Mensforth from SA Angler Magazine, with the mighty Samsonfish as my target species.  Shane and I work hard for our dinner, so watch and see how our efforts are rewarded- and I’m really surprised by what else we catch!

Langeland, Denmark

My European adventure continues this week on IFISH with Tackle World, and I’m fishing with my new best mate & local fishing guide, Morten Jans in Langeland, Denmark. Morten takes me to a local spot known for its Garfish (which look a lot like our Australian Longtom), and he introduces me to a fishing method I would never before have thought possible! Tune in to find out more!

Kadavu, Fiji

IFISH travels to the tropical paradise of Fiji this week. I’m with Mat Cook of Opulence Fishing Fiji & he’s showing me what the waters of Kadavu have to offer. Home to one of the biggest reefs in the world, Kadavu is famous for its GTs, and they’re loving the YO-ZURI Poppers. Watch out for the storm that nearly throws me overboard! Love the tropics!

Kadavu, Fiji

In this episode of IFISH with Tackle World I am in the tropical paradise of Fiji, fishing for the mighty Dogtooth Tuna with local fishing guru George Trinkler.  It’s a hard day at the office in relation to Dogtooth but we still come up trumps with some mighty fish.  It’s non-stop fishing action and I can’t wait to get back to Fiji.

Jervis Bay, NSW / Tyenna, Tasmania

This week we go on a wild ride as I try to fulfil a boyhood dream.  My plan is to catch a fish bigger than the boat I am in and the only thing that may bring me unstuck is that the fish is a lot bigger than I hoped for!!  Jervis Bay really turns it on for this one.  Then it’s off to Tassie in an attempt to lower the heart rate.  A spot of fly fishing in a crystal clear stream and the fish play their role beautifully.

Jervis Bay, NSW

I’m in Jervis Bay on this week’s episode of IFISH and I’m joined by Greg Reid from Bay & Basin Sportsfishing and Gavin McCallum from Tackle World Nowra. We’re rock fishing for Yellowtail Kingfish and it’s well and truly worth the early wake-up call! I can see why this place is so popular with local anglers – I even help one of them land a catch that’s been eluding him for a little while! All part of the fun.

Hjo, Sweden / Langeland, Denmark

Join me this week on IFISH with Tackle World as Cristy, Jet and I set out to catch some amazing fish in two of Europe’s fishing hot spots – Hjo in Sweden and Langeland in Denmark.  With the help of some cracking local expert advice we get to land some outstanding northern hemisphere fish – don’t miss this one!

Hjo, Sweden

IFISH goes Swedish this week as I’m joined by local fishing expert Ove Johansson in beautiful Hjo (pronounced “you”) in the south of the country. There are so many lakes in Sweden, it seems we’re spoilt for choice. Ove shows me a great spot to catch some local Rainbow Trout. This place is beautiful, it’s little wonder there’s so many fish! I love hjo!

Greymouth, New Zealand - One hour special!

The term fish of a lifetime gets thrown around a bit these days, but this week’s capture on IFISH with TACKLE WORLD may well be a contender.  We are fishing the Tasman Sea, 50 kilometres off Greymouth, New Zealand, waiting and hoping for a monster Pacific Bluefin Tuna.  Fish in this area average 200-350 kilos.  Will I get a bite, will the hook set, can I physically stop a fish of mammoth proportions.   All will be revealed this Friday night on ONE in a special encore performance, and then again Sunday at noon on TEN.

Emmaville, NSW / Marion Bay, SA

It’s a huge episode this week on IFISH with Tackle World where I’m joined by my mate Steve ‘Trelly’ Trelfall, as we catch ourselves some cracking Murray Cod and I’m blown away by what lands in my net – could I possibly have joined the metre club?  Then it’s onto the pristine waters of Marion Bay, South Australia where local Josh Harkin and I get sand between our toes with some beach fishing and then off the pier we catch our dinner – Calamari rocks!

Emmaville, NSW

On this week’s episode of IFISH with Tackle World I’m on 1900-hectares of farmland near the Northern NSW town of Emmaville and I’m fishing for one of my all-time favourite species; the Murray Cod. I’m here with my two good mates; Otto Volz and Jake Jakobsson and we’re guests of Monster Murray Cod who have turned their working farm into an amazing freshwater catch & release fishing destination for part of the year. After the boys go home, I show you how you can do some trolling with a 4-stroke engine – and still catch plenty of fish! This place is insane!

Emmaville, NSW

I’m in Murray Cod heaven on this week’s episode of IFISH with Tackle World! I’m back in Emmaville, NSW, on the 1900-hectare property of Monster Murray Cod and I’m joined by the lucky man who calls this place home, Clark Say and his Dad, Piper. It’s a big day for Piper who catches a monster of his own, and it’s a big day for me as I catch a fish I’ve never even seen before! Watch out for the Cod that shaves a few years off me! My heart’s still recovering!

Coffs Harbour, NSW / Kadavu, Fiji

It’s a huge episode on IFISH with Tackle World this week. I’m in Coffs Harbour, NSW along with my mates Scott Amon from FishLife Magazine and Brett Wilson from Shimano Australia.  We pull in some cracking snapper on plastics and with the help of a free diver we get to cook up an amazing ‘pizza  with a difference’.  Then it’s off to the beautiful island of Kadavu in Fiji where we have Doggies in our sight and get to share some special times with the village people from the island.    Smoked Doggie and Kava – who could ask for more!

Coffs Harbour, NSW

This week I find myself in the beautiful seaside town of Coffs Harbour, New South Wales and I’m joined by Brett Wilson from Shimano.  He shows me a great location for some land based fishing for the very cool Luderick, which is pretty much a vegetarian fish.  We use floats, which takes me back to my days fishing as a boy racing home to show Mum what I’ve caught, and I get some instruction from Brett about one of the most technical forms of fishing.  And it pays off as we get lucky with the Luderick!!

Coffs Harbour, NSW

IFISH with Tackle World is back in Coffs Harbour, NSW this week and I’m with my “BRAND new best FRIEND” and local expert, Rob ‘Blackie’ Blackerby as we go in search of one of my favourites for dinner, the hard to spot, flattie.  One of them even thinks he can hide behind my cameraman in the shallows!

Coffs Harbour, NSW

This week on IFISH with Tackle World I’m fishing a pristine, freshwater stream near Coffs Harbour, NSW and I’m joined by local Coen Amon, a young man whose knowledge of fishing just blew me away.  We are after one of the fish on my bucket list and using bread bait this freshwater species gets the tick!   It’s exciting wetting the line with next generation ‘fisho’s’!

Cairns, Queensland

On this week’s episode of IFISH I’m joined by Tom Winkworth from Tackle World Cairns as he shows me a great fishing location for the prized Queensland species; Jungle Perch. We’re paddling on the Russell River – popular with rafters as our camera eventually discovers! It’s not long before Tom puts us on the spot for plenty of Jungle Perch, with a few Sooty Grunter along the way. Fishing like this reminds me that it’s not all about the whoppers; the little ones get the adrenalin pumping too!

Cairns, Qld / Jervis Bay, NSW

It’s a big episode on this week’s IFISH with Tackle World where I am in Cairns, Qld fishing for the mighty Mangrove Jack with my old fishing buddy Tom Winkworth from Tackle World Cairns.  It’s exciting to see the Jacks hit our lures and as an added bonus we finish the day with the’ Tropical Trifecta’.  Then it’s off to Jervis Bay, NSW where I team up with Greg Reid and Josh Lambert, for some local expertise and with  the help of big soft plastics we land some cracking Yellowtail Kingfish which end  up on the ‘ barbie’ prepared  by none other than Chef Worsteling!   Bon appetite!

Bligh Reef, Queensland

It’s a big episode this week on IFISH with Tackle World. I’m fishing in the pristine waters of Queensland’s Bligh Reef with Nomad Sportfishing Adventures, and I’m joined by Tackle World’s Jarrod Day & Josh Lambert. We’re in for a cracking session on poppers with Giant Trevally in our sights. Keep an eye out for the catch of the day – and it’s not even in our boat! Amazing stuff.

Bligh Reef, Qld

I’m back fishing the crystal clear waters of Queensland’s Bligh Reef on IFISH with Tackle World this week where I’m joined by an old mate, Lynda Vagg.  We go way back and love to cast a line together.  Lynda isn’t fussy, she just wants a dogtooth and a big GT.  I will do my best.  In serious seas and high winds we give it a serious crack!

Arno Bay, South Australia

This week on IFISH with Tackle World I’m in South Australia’s Arno Bay with Victorian and National cricketer (and big fishing fan), Cameron White. We’re offshore with Arno Bay Fishing Adventures chasing monster Snapper; and we sure do find them! What an amazing fishery this is.

It’s a special episode this week as I’m joined on IFISH with Tackle World by my wife Cristy and we’re trolling lures in search of the mighty Barra of Staaten River, in far north Queensland.  For some expert local advice Gavin’ Groover’ New from Staaten River Fishing and Wilderness Lodge  is along to give us a hand. Cristy does really well with her Barra haul and watch to see her bring on-board a Barra to remember!  Fishing with the "hugs and kisses" is the best!
